Which Microsoft Licenses Do I Need For TeamsConnector?

The integration between Teams and your PBX using TeamsConnector requires a Microsoft feature called Teams Direct Routing. This feature is available with the Microsoft 365 Phone System or Common Area Phone license which enables the Dial Pad in Teams and allows calls to be made via Teams. These are an add-on to most Microsoft 356 plans but is included in the E5 plan.

Important: if your Microsoft 365 account has been procured through Key 2 IP, contact your Sales rep to obtain the license.

Unassigned M365 licenses required for Initial configuration

During the Teams Service setup process you will be required to provide an unassigned M365 user license so that the domain-based set-up tasks can be performed automatically on your behalf.

At least one unused license of any of the following types are required:

  • Microsoft 365 Business Basic
  • Microsoft 365 Business Premium
  • Office 365 E3
  • Office 365 E5
  • Microsoft Teams Phone Standard
  • Skype for Business Plan 2

The unassigned licenses are only required for the few minutes during the initial set-up process and can be released once it is completed.

If these licenses are not available, TeamsConnector will display the Manual Intervention Required Alert and stop the setup process. To resolve the issue, provide an unallocated user license and click Sync Now:

Manual Intervention Required

If you are unable to acquire an unassigned license you can activate manually by temporarily changing the sign-in domain on an existing user. Once activation has succeeded you can restore the users to their original domain.

Purchase and Assign M365 Phone System or Common Area Licenses to each Elevate for Teams user

Each Elevate for Teams user has to have a special M365 license that enables this TeamsConnector integration. Please see the table below for details:
